Amazon India today announced that its voice assistant Alexa understands the Hindi language conversations. Not just Hindi, but it also understands Hinglish. So, you can talk to Alexa in Hindi or Hinglish to ask your questions.

Alexa is the brain powering Amazon Echo devices. If you own any of the Echo devices, you can now start talking in the Hindi language. One can enable the Hindi language from the Alexa app settings. You can also ask Alexa to help in setting the Hindi language by asking “Alexa, help me set up Hindi.”. When you are talking to Alexa in Hindi, it will not just understand your words but will also reply in Hindi.

Alexa in Hindi is not just available for Echo devices but other smart speakers that support Alexa.

Amazon has also confirmed that soon Alexa will be smarter and customers won’t have to switch languages and it would understand whether you are talking in Hindi and English.

When Alexa was launched in India in 2017, it could understand and pronounce names of popular places, names, songs in Hindi and different regional languages. Now it can understand Hindi or Hinglish properly.

Amazon claims that it offers more than 30,000 skills in the country with more than 500 skills supporting Hindi.

The company has confirmed that it will soon add support for more Indic languages but didn’t share a timeline on when it will add support for these.
