Nintendo has announced the release date for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which is being remade for the Nintendo Switch 2. The game will launch on November 5, 2026, as part of The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

Nintendo showed new gameplay footage during its Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, which gives fans a closer look at the updated visuals, environments and combat.

The remake features completely revamped visuals along with a free-roaming camera and redesigned controls. Nintendo has also added additional dialogue, while locations such as Kokiri Forest, the Deku Tree and Hyrule Field have been rebuilt with updated visuals.

There will still be some loading times when moving between areas.

One of the more interesting additions uses the Nintendo Switch 2’s microphone. Players can hum a melody, and Link will play it back in the game. This fits well with the original game’s focus on music and the Ocarina.

The original Ocarina of Time remains one of the most influential games in the Zelda series, and Nintendo is clearly treating this remake as a major release rather than a simple remaster.

The remake keeps the core adventure but adds modern visuals, a free camera, updated movement, voice acting, new dialogue, faster performance and new quality-of-life features.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be available digitally through the eShop for €59.99. A physical edition will also be available at retailers from November 5.
