Apple has announced a major focus on performance with iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. While most of the attention at WWDC 2026 was on Siri, Apple Intelligence, and Liquid Glass, the company also revealed several speed improvements that could have a bigger impact on daily use.

According to Apple, iOS 27 has been optimized with bug fixes and system refinements that make the entire experience faster. The improvements are not limited to Apple’s own apps. Third-party apps are also expected to benefit.

Apple says apps can launch up to 30% faster on iOS 27. The Photos app will load newly captured photos up to 70% faster, while AirDrop transfers can be up to 80% faster than before

iPad users are getting some notable upgrades too. Apple claims file browsing and transfers in the Files app can be up to five times faster. The company says performance is now comparable to Finder on Mac, which could be a welcome change for users who regularly move large files between devices and external drives.

Another improvement is smarter network switching. Devices running iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 will be able to switch between Wi-Fi and cellular networks more quickly, reducing interruptions and making connectivity feel more seamless.

What makes these announcements interesting is that they are not tied to new hardware. Apple says even older devices, such as the iPhone 11 series, will benefit from these optimizations. Since the company has already confirmed that all iPhones running iOS 26 will also support iOS 27, millions of users could see performance gains without upgrading their phones.

It is interesting to note that Apple has not just added new features in the upcoming software upgrade, but also gave equal importance to speed, stability, and responsiveness

Of course, Apple’s performance figures represent best-case scenarios, and real-world results will vary depending on the device and usage patterns. However, if iOS 27 delivers even a portion of its promised improvements, it could be one of the most practical iPhone updates in recent years.
