Apple has announced several improvements to its Liquid Glass design language at WWDC 2026. The changes focus on improving readability and giving users more control over how the interface looks.
Liquid Glass was introduced at WWDC last year as a major visual redesign across Apple’s platforms. While some users appreciated its transparent and glass-like appearance, many criticized it for making content harder to read.
To address those concerns, Apple says it has updated the way Liquid Glass works. The company will now diffuse complex content behind interface elements to create better separation between panels and improve readability.
Apple has added a customization slider. Users will be able to adjust the appearance of Liquid Glass according to their preference. It ranges from an ultra-clear transparent look to a fully tinted design.
Apple is also making visual refinements across iOS and macOS. App icons are being redesigned to look more consistent, while sidebars and menu bars on macOS are getting a look that resembles older versions of the operating system.
The company confirmed that these Liquid Glass customization options will also be available inside third-party apps when the updates launch.
During its WWDC presentation, Apple acknowledged the mixed response to Liquid Glass and said it had spent the past year refining the design based on user feedback. The company described the latest changes as part of an ongoing process of improving major design updates after launch.
