YouTube has introduced a new update that gives users more control over how they consume short videos. The platform now allows users to set a zero-minute time limit for Shorts, which effectively removes Shorts from the app.
This feature is available on both Android and iOS devices. It is an upgrade to the Shorts timer feature that was first introduced in October last year. Earlier, the minimum time limit users could set was 15 minutes. With this update, users can now completely block Shorts by setting the limit to zero minutes.

According to YouTube spokesperson Makenzie Spiller, the feature has been rolled out to all users, including those with regular adult accounts.
With this update, YouTube wants to help users reduce excessive scrolling. When the zero-minute limit is enabled, Shorts will no longer appear in the app. If users choose a time limit instead, the app will stop showing Shorts after the set duration is reached.
Users can enable this feature by going to the app settings, opening the “Time management” section, and turning on the Shorts feed limit. From there, they can select their preferred time limit, including the new zero-minute option.
YouTube Shorts has seen massive growth in recent years. The platform now gets around 200 billion daily views and has over 2 billion monthly active users. Most viewers fall in the 25 to 34 age group, which accounts for more than 21 percent of the audience. Despite the huge audience, earnings from Shorts remain relatively low. On average, creators earn between $0.01 and $0.06 per 1,000 views.
