Back in February, we reported that Instagram was testing a new app called Instants. At that time, it looked like an early experiment around disappearing content. Now, things have moved forward. The app has appeared in both the Play Store and App Store, though availability is still limited.
The Instants app is currently listed in regions like Spain and Italy. This suggests that the rollout has begun, but it is still in a testing phase. When I tried opening the Play Store listing from India, it wasn’t available to download.
Instants focuses on quick and private sharing. You open the app, take a photo or short video, and send it instantly. There are no editing tools or filters to slow things down. The idea is to capture and share moments as they happen.
The content can be viewed only once. If not opened, it disappears after 24 hours. This keeps the experience temporary and more personal.

The core concept of the app is not new. It is very similar to Snapchat. Instants follows a similar idea but removes filters. It keeps things simple and limits sharing to close connections.
A lot of people now have two different personalities on the internet. They share different content in public, but want a private space with close friends. Instants seems built for this shift. It gives users that private space with real interactions between friends.
Since the app is only available in select regions, it is clear that this is still an experiment. Meta will likely watch how users respond before expanding it globally. If the response is good, the app could roll out to more countries, including India.
