YouTube has added a new feature that allows users to set a daily limit for scrolling the Shorts feed on mobile devices. The goal is to help users manage their time and make their viewing experience more balanced.

Users can go to the Settings menu and set a daily limit for Shorts. Once the time is up, YouTube shows a prompt saying that the daily limit has been reached. You can dismiss the prompt if you want to continue scrolling, but it acts as a reminder to take a break.

This feature is part of YouTube’s time management tools, which also include Bedtime Reminders and Take a Break notifications. These tools are designed to help users be more aware of the time they spend on the app.

Later this year, YouTube plans to extend this feature for parental controls. Parents will be able to make the limit non-dismissible for kids and teens using supervised accounts. This gives families more control over screen time and helps younger users avoid spending too much time on Shorts.

This feature can be helpful for people who struggle with managing time on Shorts, especially since the feed is designed to be addictive. On the other hand, the prompt is dismissible, so its effectiveness depends on user discipline. Some users may still ignore it and continue scrolling, which limits how much it can actually reduce screen time.

The daily time limit for Shorts will start rolling out to mobile users on October 22, 2025. More users will get access in the following weeks.
