Spotify has introduced a new feature that makes playlists feel more professional and personalized. Premium subscribers can now add custom transitions between songs, giving playlists a smoother flow.
The new option lets you choose from preset transitions like fade, rise, or blend. You can also adjust EQ, volume, and effects while using waveform and beat data to decide the best point for switching tracks. To make it easier, Spotify will even display the song’s key and beats per minute.
To try it, open any playlist, tap on the “Mix” button, and start editing. Once done, you can save and share the playlist with friends or even collaborate on it with others. The feature can be toggled on or off anytime, so you can switch back to the regular playlist format when you want.
Spotify says the feature works best with genres like house and techno, where songs already blend well. Users can also add custom cover art, stickers, and labels to make mixed playlists stand out.
This update comes as Spotify continues to add tools that give listeners more control, while also competing with Apple Music’s upcoming AutoMix.
Custom transitions are rolling out now to most Premium users worldwide, with some APAC markets getting the update later. Make sure you are on the latest version of Spotify for iOS or Android to try it out.
