Google I/O 2025 was packed with announcements, and as expected, AI was at the center of everything. From new features in Search and Gmail to powerful image and video generation tools, Google showed how it is using AI to improve the way we work, communicate, and create. There were also a few surprises that no one saw coming, like an AI filmmaking app and upgrades to its futuristic video chat tool.
Here’s a detailed look at the 15 biggest things Google announced at this year’s event:
1. AI Mode for Search is now available to all users in the US
Google is rolling out a new “AI Mode” in Search. This feature lets you ask questions or search the web using Google’s Gemini AI chatbot. It’s available to everyone in the US starting this week. Later this summer, Google will test deeper search features and the ability to generate charts for finance and sports topics. Soon, you will even be able to shop directly using AI Mode.
2. Flow – Google’s new AI filmmaking app
Google has launched a new app called Flow. This tool uses Imagen, Veo, and Gemini AI to create short video clips from text prompts or images. You can also stitch clips together using a scene builder to make longer videos. It is aimed at creators and filmmakers who want to quickly bring their ideas to life using AI.
3. Gemini 2.5 Pro gets a new Deep Think mode
A new experimental feature called Deep Think has been added to Gemini 2.5 Pro. It is designed for solving complex problems like math or coding. This mode can look at multiple possibilities before giving an answer.
Only trusted testers can try it for now. Meanwhile, Gemini 2.5 Flash is now available to everyone through the Gemini app and Google AI Studio.
4. Smart glasses with Project Aura and Android XR
Google is teaming up with smart glasses maker Xreal on a project called Aura. These glasses will run on the Android XR platform and come with built-in cameras and microphones. They will also feature Gemini AI for voice interaction.
Google is also working with Samsung, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker on other smart glasses with similar features.

It will be available via the “Live” icon in Lens or AI Mode. iOS users will also get free access to Gemini Live’s screen-sharing tool, just like Android users.

10. Gmail’s smart replies get smarter
Gmail’s smart reply system will now look at the contents of your inbox and Google Drive to suggest more personalized replies. It will also understand the tone of the email, for example, giving formal suggestions for work-related emails.
This improved feature will launch in English on the web, Android, and iOS in July.
11. Stitch – AI tool to create app interfaces
Google launched Stitch, a tool that helps designers build app interfaces using AI. You can type a description or provide a rough sketch, and Stitch will turn it into a usable UI design. The tool is available on Google Labs for testing.
12. New AI Ultra plan costs $250/month
Google introduced a premium AI Ultra plan. It gives access to the most advanced AI models and higher usage limits for tools like Gemini, NotebookLM, Flow, and more. This plan also includes early access to features like Gemini in Chrome and Project Mariner, which can complete up to 10 tasks at once.
13. Project Astra gets more proactive and helpful
Google’s AI assistant, Project Astra, can already “see” what your phone’s camera is looking at. Now, it can also act without you having to ask. For example, it might notice a mistake in your homework and speak up to tell you.
14. Imagen 4 and Veo 3 bring better image and video generation
Google’s latest AI image model, Imagen 4, can generate better text inside images and allows you to export images in different formats, like square and landscape.
The new Veo 3 video model can now generate both video and sound. Meanwhile, Veo 2 has added camera controls and tools to remove objects from videos.
15. Project Starline is now called Google Beam
Project Starline, Google’s 3D video chat booth, has a new name – Google Beam. It will launch as an HP-branded device and come with a special light field display and six cameras. These work together to show a 3D version of the person you’re talking to, making video calls feel more realistic.
Companies like Salesforce, Deloitte, and Duolingo are already planning to use Google Beam in their offices.
