Going through lengthy documents with thousands of pages can be exhausting, especially when you don’t have enough time. Microsoft has solved this problem with the upgraded summarization feature in Word. It can handle large document files easily.
Previously, Copilot in Microsoft Word could summarize documents with up to 300 pages. Now, with the latest update, it can generate summaries for documents up to 3,000 pages. This makes it ten times more powerful.
To use this feature, open a document and click the Copilot button on the Home tab. Ask Copilot to generate a summary. Choose from three summary types: Brief, Balanced, and Detailed.
Microsoft acknowledged that the previous summarization feature wasn’t always sufficient for certain types of documents. SO, they have improved the feature to offer more detailed insights to ensure better context and comprehension. This is especially useful for users working with extensive reports, research papers, or legal documents.
The improved document summarization is now rolling out to Microsoft 365 subscribers on both desktop and web versions of Word. If you are a Microsoft 365 subscriber, you can try this feature in the following versions:
- Word for Windows: Version 2503 (Build 18623.20042)
- Word for Mac: Version 16.96 (Build 25031738)
- Word for the Web
