Lenovo’s New Solar Laptop Can Run on Sunlight

Laptop battery life has improved in recent years, but it’s never enough. So, Lenovo has come with a laptop that charges using sunlight. Yes, you read that right. At MWC 2025, Lenovo unveiled the Yoga Solar PC Concept, a laptop with 84 solar cells built into the lid. These can convert just 20 minutes of sunlight into one hour of video playback.

Solar charging works even when you are not in direct sunlight. Even in low light, the panel can generate enough power to keep the battery alive when the laptop is idle. Lenovo’s Back Contact Cell technology moves mounting parts behind the solar cells. This helps absorb more energy and makes the panel 24% efficient, one of the highest in the industry.

The Dynamic Solar Tracking system also adjusts charging settings in the real-time. This ensures better energy efficiency and stable performance.

Despite this tech, the laptop is only 1.22kg and 15mm thin. So, it is ultra-portable. You can use the laptop anywhere, as long as there’s light.

For now, it seems like a backup charging option and can’t replace a charger. But this tech could improve the future and change the way we think about laptop power.

Right now, this is just a concept, but it shows what the future of laptops could look like. Would you buy a solar-powered laptop? Let us know!
