Sandisk’s Next-Gen SSD Hits 14,000 MB/s at Just 7W

Sandisk

Sandisk has announced its next-gen SSD that delivers blazing-fast speeds while maintaining power efficiency compared to current Gen4 drives.

At a recent investor event, Sandisk announced its high-end PCIe 5.0 drive that boasts sequential read speeds of up to 14,500 MB/s and write speeds reaching 14,000 MB/s in its 2TB configuration. The most notable thing is its power efficiency. It consumes just 7 watts. It’s lower than other Gen5 drives, which typically draw around 10 watts under peak loads.

This impressive efficiency is due to the use of Silicon Motion’s SM2508 controller, which is known for being highly power-efficient. The drive will use SanDisk’s TLC NAND technology that ensures durability and reliability. The drive will be built on Sandisk’s TLC NAND platform and will be available in 512GB to 4TB configurations.

In addition to the high-speed PCIe 5.0 SSD, SanDisk is also launching a more affordable SSD series based on QLC NAND and PCIe 4.0 One of the key models in this lineup is the Western Digital PC SN5100S. It offers 53% faster random read speeds and 44% better random write speeds compared to its predecessor, the SN5000S. These SSDs will be available in sizes up to 2TB.

Sandisk also aims to use QLC technology in 75 percent of its storage lineup by 2028. It is also working to transition from PCIe Gen4 to Gen5 within the same time frame.
