Brave Search has taken a major step toward giving users control over their search experience. It has introduced Rerank, a powerful new feature that allows users to customize search rankings. Users can use the feature to up-rank or remove domains from their search results to have a personalized search experience.

Unlike traditional search engines that rely on opaque algorithms, Rerank gives users control of their search results. The feature is now available for free on all searches made via search.brave.com.

The feature lets users customize their search experience by directly interacting with the results. They can click a thumbs-up button under a domain to up-rank it. Brave will prioritize the domain in future search results. In the same way, clicking the thumbs-down button pushes the domain lower in the results.

By actively using this feature, users can prioritize websites they trust and eliminate those they find less credible. It is also important to note that your changes only apply to your device. If you demote a website, it won’t affect the website’s visibility in Brave Search for other users. Brave has also confirmed that it won’t collect Rerank data to adjust search results. Rerank settings are stored locally on the device and won’t be used for tracking.

It is important to note that Rerank feature has been built on Brave’s existing Goggles technology that was introduced back in 2022.Goggles allows users to create and apply custom filters for reshaping search results. While Goggles is great for more complex and community-driven filtering, Rerank provides a quicker option for personalizing results.

It is important to note that Google also had a feature to hide or block certain sites from search results. Google also introduced the feature to give users control over their results. Now Brave is offering a similar feature to personalize search results based on preferences.

What do you think of Rerank? Is this the kind of transparency and customization you’ve been waiting for in search engines? Let us know your thoughts!
