Apple Vision Pro created a buzz but couldn’t be a commercial success for Apple due to its high price tag and limited availability. Apple is expected to launch its successor next year, but most people are waiting for the affordable version of Vision Pro. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that the affordable version of Vision Pro is in development but we shouldn’t expect its launch until 2027.
Kuo confirmed that the Vision Pro successor will come with an M5 chip and will come with a high price tag similar to its predecessor.
Kuo also noted an interesting point. He compared the affordable Vision Pro with the HomePod mini. Apple launched the HomePod mini to provide users with an affordable smart speaker option, but it failed to attract consumers. The same could be done with Vision Pro. Apple knows it and it won’t launch the affordable version of Vision Pro until it is ready to provide value for the price.
For making an affordable mixed-reality headset, Apple is likely to use cheaper materials and an inferior chip. It could also reduce the quality of the internal XR screen to bring the cost down. A few reports also suggest that Apple might remove the heavily marketed EyeSight feature from the affordable mixed-reality headset.
