Apple has acquired the image-editing platform Pixelmator. Pixelmator confirmed this news via a post on its official website. However, the company didn’t disclose the terms of the deal. The acquisition is also subject to regulatory approval.

“Pixelmator has signed an agreement to be acquired by Apple, subject to regulatory approval. There will be no material changes to the Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS, and Photomator apps at this time. Stay tuned for exciting updates to come,” Pixelmator says in a blog post.

Pixelmator Pro is a popular professional image editing tool that is powerful and easy to use. Founded in 2009, Pixelmator quickly gained recognition for its user-friendly interface and powerful features. Pixelmator is only available for iOS, MacOS, iPadOS, and VisionOS. Pixelmator offers tools for editing photos, creating designs, drawing, and more. It is a cheaper alternative to Adobe Photoshop. It costs $49.99 for a one-time payment.

Considering Apple’s acquisition history, we can expect Pixelmator’s features soon in the Photos app. Since Apple sutures there will be “no material changes” to the existing Pixelmator apps, users can continue to enjoy these apps. We can expect tighter integration with other Apple products, such as the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Pixelmator also has the opportunity to grow in line with Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro. Apple acquired Logic Pro in 2002 and Final Cut Pro in 1999.
