Oppo has shared its vision around AI and confirms future plans to make AI phones accessible to everyone. OPPO says that AI should not be limited to high-end models. It confirms to bring AI features to smartphones belonging to all pricing segments by the end of 2024.

The company added several AI features to select smartphones with the ColorOS New Year Edition update in China. Later, these features were also added to global devices. Now the company has its AI Centre in Shenzhen where developers are working to bring several AI features to Oppo devices. It has also partnered with tech giants like Microsoft, Google, Qualcomm, and Mediatek for the same.

Oppo claims that it is working to bring more than 100 generative AI features to Oppo smartphones. It has already filed more than 5,399 AI patents globally. The key focus areas for the company are image processing, computer vision, speech technology, natural language processing (NLP), and machine learning.

The company is leveraging Microsoft’s Fast Transcription and Neural TTS technologies to bring natural voice and text conversion experience. It has also used Gemini to power some of the AI features including AI Writer and AI Recording Summary. These features have already been added to Oppo Flagship phones.

Oppo has been working on its large language models (LLMs) since 2020 and has delayed an LLM with 7 billion parameters directly to smartphones. The company is also working with MediaTek to develop chipsets with dedicated AI processing units and accelerators.

OPPO’s commitment to making AI phones accessible to everyone seems a notable decision. All big tech companies including Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, Nvidia, Qualcomm, MediaTek, and more are playing their parts in making generative AI features better and faster. Now brands will have to move forward and make these features accessible.
