OpenAI has confirmed that it has rolled out a voice chat feature to all free users on Android and iOS. Users can download the ChatGPT app on their smartphone and start a voice conversation with the AI Chatbot.

Voice chat with ChatGPT was first rolled out to ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise users back in September. OPenAI worked with professional voice actors for this feature.

To use this feature, tap the headphone icon on the bottom right of the chat window. After tapping the icon, it will open the voice conversation screen where you can speak the query and get audio responses. Audio clips of the app are not stored. The app also auto-detects the language, but users can select a preferred language in Settings for accurate voice detection.

ChatGPT voice feature converts spoken queries into text and then converts responses into audio using its text-to-speech (TTS) technology.

OpenAI has been in the news for the past few days for all the wrong reasons. OpenAI board fired Sam Altman as CEO on Friday. Soon after this news broke, nearly all of the OpenAI employees threatened to quit the company and asked the board to resign. Microsoft brought a twist to the story as it hired Sam Altman. However, the OpenAI board began talks with Sam Altman for his comeback to the company. We still don’t know if Sam Altman will join Microsoft or return to OpenAI.
