YouTube Music is getting Podcasts

YouTube Music is also adding podcasts to its library of audio and video content. Podcasts on YouTube music will be available to all free and premium users. As we can guess, users will get ad-supported playback. The app will also add a podcast badge in the audio-first content to highlight them in the app.

As reported by The Verge, YouTube’s head of podcasting, Kai Chuk confirmed this at Hot Pod Summit.

This step will make podcasts available in all places users want to listen to them. Background listing will also be available for free. YouTube will also make it easier to switch from video to audio in the middle of an episode to listen on the go.

YouTube has currently no plans of adding exclusive shows or licensed originals. It will focus on its creators and YouTube users. The company wants to provide a good platform for people who are making or listening to audio-focused shows.

Spotify is the biggest rival of YouTube Music. Spotify has good Podcasts content with several exclusive shows. It has over 205 million subscribers. YouTube Music had over 80 million subscribers, including customers on free trials as of November.
