Flipkart to provide e-books in partnership with Pratilipi

Flipkart has partnered with one of India’s biggest digital storytelling platforms Pratilipi to offer Pratilipi’s library of ebooks on Flipkart. These ebooks are available in 12 Indian languages across multiple genres.

Pratilipi books can be found in the Books category of Flipkart. Users can select the book to read and make an upfront payment to buy it. After the payment, they will receive an email with a coupon code. Now Download the Pratilipi app and enter the coupon code to read the ebook you purchased on Flipkart.

Speaking on this collaboration, Ranjeet Pratap Singh, co-founder & CEO, Pratilipi, said, “The driving idea behind Pratilipi is essentially access. At Pratilipi, we believe that everyone should have access to reading irrespective of any barriers such as language, geography, format, money, and technical literacy. Joining hands with Flipkart, one of India’s leading digital commerce entities, we believe that together we can build one of the biggest content libraries in regional languages and make it easily accessible to audiences that like to consume content in regional languages.”

Pratilipi claims to have more than 25 million monthly active users and over 9.5 million stories published to date. The platform also gets around 500 million reads every month. With Flipkart’s partnership, Pratilipi aims to dig deeper into Indian readers and expand its user base.

Flipkart launched an ebook store back in 2012. In 2013, the company also introduced ebook apps for iOS, Windows Phone, and Web, and. It also partnered with California-based multi-format ebooks publisher Smashwords. This segment didn’t do well for the company, so Flipkart closed its ebook store in December 2015.
