Popular end-to-end encrypted messaging app Signal is getting a new Stories feature. The company will soon add it to the desktop as well. Stories feature lets users share images, videos, and texts that remain only for 24 hours and expire after the time ends. Like messages on Signal, Stories are also end-to-end encrypted.
Signal has also added privacy options for users. So, they can choose who can see their Stories. If you do not want a person to see your Stories, you can manually hide your Story from the person. The app also tells you saw your Stories. You can also turn Stories view receipts on or off.
People who do not want the Stories feature can opt out of the feature using the opt-out setting. Go to Settings –> Stories –> Turn off stories to turn Stories off and the app will not show you Stories and will not let you create Stories.
The company says that Stories is one of the most popular feature requests. So, it decided to add the feature.
“Stories have emerged to serve these specific functions and others in the broader communications landscape, and many of us have integrated them as one of the ways that we connect with one another,” the company said in a blog post.
Signal is one of the most popular texting apps. It is popular for being truly end-to-end encrypted. When WhatsApp faced criticism for sharing data with Facebook, several people switched to Signal for privacy.
Stories let users share life’s interesting moments with their contacts without personally sending messages to them. Stories were initially added by Snapchat and the feature was later copied for almost all social media apps including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
