At Lenovo’s Tech World 2022 event, Motorola shows off its rollable mobile phone in a quick video demo. The phone has a button that extends and retracts the screen on press.

The company didn’t reveal anything about the phone. So, we just saw the front part of the prototype phone. The phone features a 6.5-inch OLED panel when the screen is extended. When retracted down, the display measures around 5 inches.

Motorola uses a different approach than Samsung, TCL, and Oppo. These companies developed a concept rollable phone that expands horizontally to turn your phone into a table. Motorola is trying to expand the phone vertically.

Motorola already has a foldable phone but failed to get enough customers for it. Samsung accounts for 62% of the global foldable phone sale. The market of foldable phones I expected to grow in 2022. So, we can expect more consumer devices in the coming months. Reports suggest that Google is also set to launch its first foldable phone.

From concept to actual consumer devices, foldable phones have come a long way. In the same way, rollable phones also have the potential to revolutionize the smartphone market.
