Android devices are always at risk of getting malware infection because malicious apps manage to get into the Play Store. Now ESET has a released Q2 2022 Threat Report with some shocking revelations about Android malware. The report claims that Android malware detection has grown by 9.5% and significant growth was seen in the Spyware category.
One of the main suspects in spreading malware among Indian Android users is GB WhatsApp. GB WhatsApp is a third-party WhatsApp client that promises to unlock several features that are not available in the official WhatsApp app. GB WhatsApp is not available in the Play Store, so users download it from third-party sources.
Several APK hosting websites serve infected APKs to spread malware. This is the reason I recommend people download APKs only from trusted APK download websites.
If you are an Android user, you should stop downloading APKs from any random website. Download apps only from the Google Play store. If the app has been removed from the Play Store or is not available on the Play Store, download it from the official website or from a trusted APK website.
Avoid downloading the modified versions of any app. There are several modified apps of WhatsApp, Instagram, and YouTube that promise ads-free experience, and additional features. If you think your phone has been infected, download a good Android antivirus and scan your phone.
