Bharti Airtel has today announced the launch of its 5G services dubbed Airtel 5G Plus in eight Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur, and Varanasi. The company will launch 5G in more cities in a phased manner.

Airtel has confirmed that there is no need to get a new SIM for 5G. Their existing SIM will work. Customers who already own a 5G smartphone can now enjoy Airtel 5G if their phone supports Airtel’s 5G band. Yes, you are reading it right. Even if you have a 5G smartphone, it needs to support the right bands to get Airtel’s 5G working on your phone. Your phone must support 900 MHz (n8), 1,800 MHz, 2,100 MHz(n1), 3,300 MHz(n78), and 26 GHz (n258) bands to enjoy Airtel 5G Plus.

If you have 5G phone, open the Settings app on your phone and then go to Mobile network. Here, select the Airtel SIM and enable e5G from the Preferred network type option.

The company promises to deliver 20 to 30 times higher speeds in 5G network. So, customers can enjoy faster web browsing, improved HD video streaming, and a better gaming experience. Airtel also boasts that Airtel 5G Plus network is kinder to the environment with its special power reduction solution.

Airtel also promises to keep existing data plans for 5G services until the company manages to get 5G services in most parts of the country.

5G services were launched in India by Indian prime minister Narendra Modi at IMC 2022 on October 1.
