Instagram is now making it easier to buy products on the platform. Now users can shop products through Instagram DMs. You can message businesses to ask about a product, get product details, and buy directly from the DM using Meta Pay without leaving the conversation.

This feature lets users shop a product from the business without needing to visit the website of the business or use a shoppable post. In the same chat thread, users will be able to track their orders and ask follow-up questions.

“You can now buy products from small businesses and track your order in chat on Instagram in the U.S.,” Zuckerberg said in an Instagram post while announcing the new feature.

The feature will be available to qualified small businesses in some countries. So, not all businesses can sell via DMs and not all users can purchase via DMs. The company hasn’t shared the availability details, so we cannot say if the feature will be available to Indian users.

WhatsApp already offers shopping through chats in several countries. Meta is only expanding the same feature to Instagram. Instagram is already a popular platform for brands to promote their products. They use shoppable posts, Instagram ads, and influencer marketing to promote their products. So, the option to pay via DMs will surely increase sales on the platform.
