Apple releases a new app to detect AirTags on Android

AirTags

Apple’s AirTags is one of the best tracking devices that use global Apple devices as a mesh network to locate an AirTag. But the AirTag can also be used to secretly track someone’s location by hiding it into the bag or other personal items. A recent report claims that AirTag is being used by thieves to locate and steal expensive cars in Canada.

Apple has now released a new app Tracker Detect for Android devices. This app can scan for AirTags and other devices that use Apple’s “Find My” network. If it finds a nearby AirTag, it will flag it as an “Unknown AirTag.” If the device follows you for 10 minutes, you can use the app to play a sound of tracker and find it.

The app will further offer you instructions on how to remove Airtag’s battery or disable it.

The best thing about this app is that it doesn’t require an Apple account. You can simply install it on your phone and scan for unknown AirTag around you when you want.

It is worth noting that the app doesn’t support background scanning abilities. So, you need to scan for a snooping AirTag manually from time to time. I hope Apple adds background scanning in the app. Apple offers iPhone users if an unknown AirTag is following them. But this is only if the iPhone is iPhone running iOS 14.5 or later.
