TikTok’s parent company ByteDance is still operating in India. After the ban on TikTok, the company now manages a learning app Snapsolve, and music streaming service Resso.

According to recent reports, ByteDance has now decided to shut down its edtech business in India. There are over three dozen people working in its edtech division. Bytedance has explored migrating the India team to work with the European edtech team. Now they have decided to let them go.

SnapSolve is a learning app for students in grades 6 to 12. The app helps in finding solutions to Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Science doubts and NCERT book questions. The app is free and competes against Vedantu, Byju’s, Doubtnut, and Quesgo.

ByteDance has also advised all the employees not to talk about the matter publicly.

It is really surprising to see that the company is exiting edtech sector at a time when it is growing in the country. 5 out of 13 unicorns added in Q3 CY21 are from edtech sector.
