Microsoft has just confirmed that the company will soon end support for office Android apps on Chrome OS. Office apps won’t be working on Chrome OS starting September 18th. Office Apps for Android will continue to exist. They will just stop working on Chromebooks. Chrome OS users who still want to use the Office app can use the Office web app via Office.com or Outloook.com.

Some users, who tried to open Office Android apps on their Chromebook, found a notification suggesting them to switch to Office.com for the best and up-to-date experience.

Obviously, web apps get the work done but the experience isn’t the same as in Android apps. The web app also offers no offline access. So, users will surely miss this feature after the office app is gone for Chrome OS.

Microsoft claims that the step has been taken to offer an optimized experience for Chrome OS/Chromebook customers. Still the company failed to provide a clear intention why the step has been taken.
