Ahead of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S release, Microsoft has announced big news for Xbox gamers, The company has acquired Zenimax Media for $7.5 billion dollars.

Zenimax Media is the owner of several game studios including Bethesda Softworks, id Software, Arkane Studios, Machine Games, and Tango Gameworks. This deal makes Microsoft the owner of several popular games including DOOM, Quake, The Evil Within, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Dishonored, Prey, and dozens more.

The company has also confirmed that all Bethesda and Zenimax games will join Xbox Game Pass for console and PC.

“Gaming is the most expansive category in the entertainment industry, as people everywhere turn to gaming to connect, socialize and play with their friends,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said.

This deal is one of the most notable video game acquisitions in history. Back in 2014, Microsoft also bought Mojang, the studio behind Minecraft for $2.5 billion. This helped Minecraft to be one of the best-selling games in the world. Bethesda should also expect similar results.

During Covid-19 pandemic, gaming industry saw a huge surge in demand. Several people turned to gaming to pass their time and relieve stress.
