Apple refreshes the iMac with new Intel processors and improved webcam

Apple just announced an update for both the 27-inch and 21.5-inch iMac models. Now, these iMac models come with Intel’s 10th Gen Comet Lake processors.

There is no major design change as expected and there’s also no ARM-based Mac. New 2020 iMacs look identical to previous gen iMacs. Another notable upgrade is the inclusion of 1080p webcam as compared to 720p found in other Macs. New T2 chip also brings other improvements like tone mapping, exposure control, and face detection. Here’s Face Detention doesn’t means FaceID. The new iMac doesn’t have any biometric login options and no Face ID.

There are iMacs with Intel’s 6- and 8-core processes in standard models along with a 10-core i9 model. Standard graphics configs have AMD’s Radeon 5300 or 5500XT, with the 5700XT with 16GB VRAM. You can also upgrade RAM to have up to 128GB of DDR4 RAM as well.

SSD is now standard in all iMac models and features upgrades for up to 8TB of storage. The 5K Retina display of the 27-inch iMac feature True Tone technology.

The new 27-inch iMac starts at $1,799 and both the 21.5-inch iMac and the updated iMac Pro are priced at $1,099 and $4,999 respectively.
