Popular dating app Tinder has confirmed its plan to launch in-app, one-on-one video chats this year. Match Group, Tinder’s parent company has confirmed this feature while announcing its earnings.

The company decided to introduce a video chat feature after it saw people’s interest in a one-to-one live video date because they are stuck at home. Tinder has millions of users and video calls will surely help them knowing their matches in a better way before meeting in-person. It could also make it harassment and abuse difficult as opposed to text-based messaging.

“Social distancing has required adaptations and pivots and has impacted our business because the manner in which singles engage with our products and start relationships has quickly evolved. We know that singles are adjusting their behaviors, and many are shifting to having dates virtually via phone or video,” the company said in a statement.

He company also confirmed that 70% of users of its other dating platform Hinge said that they are open to try video dating. 94% occupied users also have plan to continue dating virtually. Learning from these survey made the company think about adding video dating feature.

March group also confirmed that it saw surge un swipes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The app saw all-time high swipes. Women users under the age of 30 increased their daily average swipes by 37 percent.
