Instagram Gets Messenger Rooms Integration to Enable Group Video Chats

Instagram

While announcing Messenger Rooms, Facebook confirmed that it will be crosslinked from WhatsApp and Instagram. We have already seen the Rooms link in WhatsApp beta. Now Instagram has also announced the Rooms integration.

The integration is now live and I could see it my phone. While initiating a video call from Instagram, you will see the option to start Rooms call with up to 50 people. You can select Contacts to invite and then Messenger Rooms link will be shared with them on DM.

Instagram will ask you to open the room in the Messenger app. If you don’t want more people to enter Rooms conversation, you can also lock it.

Messenger Rooms has several features that are not available in Instagram’s video call. These features include face-flattering lighting filters, AR backgrounds, and up to 50 participants. On Instagram, you can only have a video call with up to 6 people.

Facebook has been trying to combine the conversation feature of Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp for long. Rooms could be the first step on the same direction.
