After launching Messenger Rooms globally, Facebook has launched a new app called Catchup to help people stay in touch. Catchup has been developed by Facebook’s NPE Team,

Catchup lets users make one to one audio call or group audio call with up to 8 people. The app doesn’t use Facebook contact but users own phone contacts.

Placing a call is really simple and you just need to tap on the call button. It is also easy to make group audio calls.

The app also takes some inspiration from Houseparty and confirms what contact is available to talk. It shows users as “Ready to Talk” in the top section. So you know you are not interrupting someone by making the call.

“Based on our studies, we found that one of the main reasons people don’t call friends and family more frequently is that they don’t know when they are available to talk or are worried they may reach them at an inconvenient time. CatchUp addresses this problem, and even makes group calling as easy as one tap,” Facebook said in a blog post.

For now, the app is only available in the US only for a limited period of time as a part of the test launch. Once this testing is over, the company will surely launch the app globally.
