A cybercriminal has put 47.5 million Truecaller records of Indian users on sale in the DarkWeb. Researchers from cybersecurity company Cyble found this listing and reported about it. The data is priced at just $1000.
The data includes phone numbers, gender, city, mobile network, Facebook id, etc. This data can be used in phishing scams, identity theft, and similar cyber attacks.

TrueCaller claims that there was no breach on their database and all the information is secure. A spokesperson from the company claims that the data looks similar to a data set released last year in May.
“What they have here is likely the same dataset as before. It’s easy for bad actors to compile multiple phone number databases and put a Truecaller stamp on it. By doing that, it lends some credibility to the data and makes it easier for them to sell. We urge the public and users not to fall prey to such bad actors whose primary motive is to swindle the people of their money,” the spokesperson said.
Cyble actively keeps finding such leaks and report about the incidents. Last week, the company reported about another Darkweb listing selling personal data of 2.9 crore Indians sourced from Job websites.
