India’s smartphone market was doing well before the government imposed lockdown to stop the spread of Covid-19 in the country. Now Canalys has published a report of smartphone shipment during the quarter ended March 2020 confirming the positive growth of smartphone shipment.

India’s smartphone market saw 12 percent year-on-year growth with 33.5 million units shipped. Xiaomi managed to retain its top position with 30.6 percent market share and 10.3 million smartphones shipment during this quarter.

Vivo has surprised us all by beating Samsung to become 3nd largest smartphone vendor in the country. Vivo now has a 19.9% market share and shipped 6.7 million units. The company grew 48.9 percent year-on-year.

Samsung Mobiles

Samsung is now at the third with 189.% market share. The growth was negative as compared to the same quarter of previous year. Realme has reached 4th place with 11.7% market share and reported 200% year=on-year growth.

Due to lockdown, the smartphone market is closed and we have no idea when the government will resume sales. Now it is being said that the lockdown will be extended to May end. So, the current quarter will post negative growth. But that doesn’t matter if we manage to beat Coronovairus pandemic by following social distancing.
