After mocking Xiaomi several times, Realme also puts ads on Smartphones

Realme X2 Pro

Realme is a new brand that has achieved exceptional growth in the past year. It has been trying to compete against Xiaomi and somewhere it got success in becoming a mainstream brand in a short span of time.

At each launch, Realme used to compare its devices against Redmi devices and it never missed a chance to make fun of Redmi for showing ads in MIUI. But things are turning now because Realme has also decided to follow the path of Redmi to boost revenue. Realme has now announced that it will show ads on its devices too.

Realme has announced via a forum post and confirmed that Realme devices running on ColorOS 6 and above will offer ads.

“To continue offering more surprises for you and maintain a healthy and sustainable business model, we have introduced commercial content recommendation in the OS. Realme phones with ColorOS 6 and above will receive such recommendation updates,” Forum post reads.

Ads will appear in the phone manager and on the Security Check page after installing new apps. Users will be given an option to turn off content recommendations with a single click. Follow Settings -> Additional Settings -> Content Recommendation.

This is embarrassing for a brand that made fun of something and now following the same. Realme offering smartphones at extremely competitive prices but it cannot keep going the same way without making money. Subsidies cannot be given for long if a brand has to survive in long run. So, it is now copying Xioami’s way to make some money out of devices while keeping the prices low.
