Microsoft will shut down the Cortana app on Android and iOS on January 31 next year. If not globally, at least in a few markets.

There is no official announcement but pages on Microsoft UK, Canada, and Australia support websites confirm the development. The Verge also got confirmation from Microsoft that the Cortana app will disappear in the UK, Australia, Germany, Mexico, China, Spain, Canada, and India on January 31st.

It says, “As part of this evolution, on January 31st, 2020, we’re ending support for the Cortana app on Android and iOS in your market.”

After January 31, 2020, the Cortana app will not be supported. Microsoft launcher will also get an update to remove the Cortana. Cortana reminders, lists, and tasks will be synced to the Microsoft To-Do app. Cortana will be further integrated into the Microsoft 365 productivity apps.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also revealed that he no longer sees Cortana as a competitor to Google Assistant or Alexa. Cortana failed to attract many users. Not many device manufacturers also took an interest in integrating Microsoft’s digital assistant.
