Memes have taken over the Internet. People share and react to memes on different social media platforms. There are a lot of good meme creator apps that let people create and share memes easily. Facebook is also reportedly jumping in this segment with its new app.

Facebook is working on a meme creation app called Whale that lets people create a meme using stock images and basic photo-editing tools. Whale lets users capture a photo, select a photo from camera roll or use a stock photo in the app’s library for making a meme. You can select Blank, 2-grid, 3-grid, and 4-grid canvas layouts and several customization options including text, effects, and filters. Finally, you can share memes to social media and message threads direct from the app.

The app is not available to everyone and has been listed on the Canadian App Store. The developer of the app is the NPE Team that is an internal testing group at Facebook called New Product Experimentation. This team was announced back in July this year for working on ideas.

There’s nothing special in the app because we already have a lot of meme maker apps on the App store. So, it will be interesting to see if Facebook finds users for the app. In the past, it had worked on several apps but failed to get many users.

The Information first reported about the app when it became available in the Canadian App Store on November 15, 2019.
