Flipkart rolls out video streaming service

Video streaming market in India is already crowded with more than 30 OTT apps offering video content. Now Flipkart has also jumped into the same segment with the launch of its own video service. There’s no separate app to access videos. The company has added a section in the existing app where you can access videos.

If you have an updated app, you will see the video option on the menu. Tapping on it will open the whole video portfolio available on Flipkart. Flipkart has included various movies and TV shows from key players such as Dice Media, TVF, Arre and Voot. Flipkart already confirmed that it has no plans in creating original content, but it will be just a platform to curate content from different providers.

Flipkart’s video service will be free for any registered user. The platform is ad-supported, so there is no monthly or annual charge from users. Users can only watch content online. There is no option to save a video for offline viewing. I hope this option will also be available soon when the company will have considerable users.

For now, this service is only available for Android users and soon it will also be available for iOS users.

Video streaming segment won’t be easy to conquer. Amazon Prime Video, NETFLIX, and MX Player are already attracting millions of consumers. So, Flipkart will have a tough time ahead in making its video segment popular.
