Google has already made its VR ambitions clear. DayDream VR is its new virtual reality platform natively supported by its Android Nougat. But, what about web content on the browser? Google is reportedly working to bring the VR experience for web content.
Latest Google Chrome beta build shows support for a WebVR shell which will allow you to experience the web pages in virtual reality.
WebVR is a set of standard capabilities that allow the creation of VR websites to the server in VR headsets. But we already have billions of web pages. How to access the existing web content in VR? Google’s new WebVR mode in Chrome is for those content.
As noted by Road to VR, This VR shell is not fully functional but it should only be a matter of time before it comes into reality.
Samsung already built a browser for its Gear VR that only works with company’s own handsets. So, it is not for all users across the globe. By adding the VR mode in Google Chrome, Google can offer access of Internet to even cardboard VR headset users.
Google is also reportedly working on a version of Chrome that supports the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
