Popular photo sharing app Instagram is testing a new algorithm-driven news feed. Once this feed is live, photos on Instagram will no longer be sorted in chronological order. It will behave like Facebook. Your feed will be organized by an algorithm to show you photos which are most relevant to you.

Instagram claims that around 70 percent people are missing their feeds and photos they care about. When you are following too many people, it will not be possible for you to be online all the time to see every single photo shared. So, Instagram wants to sort photos in the order you care about. It will try to show photos you will be interested in seeing.

Starting Tuesday, around 400 million users had their feeds reordered with the new algorithm. Algorithm considers photos you like, people you most engage and your search preferences.

This new change seems interesting, but it will change the Instagram in a totally different way. Filtered feeds will bring more engagement from users. Boring posts will be pushed away. Even though people hate changes, this change will not hurt Instagram.

If you can remember, Twitter also announced to adopt algorithmic feeds. But Instagram did the same without any previous announcement.
