Lenovo has unveiled its first smartphone based on Project Tango at CES 2016. Lenovo is working hard with Google to make available the phone this summer. This phone will be priced less than $500.
To remind you, Project Tango began few years back. This project was the brain-child of Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects Group to develop a phone to capture and render the 3D image with the help of smartphone camera. This 3D image can be edited as well. Project Tango combines the camera and sensors (gyroscope and accelerometer) to estimate six degree of freedom motion tracking. In this way, it gets ability to track 3D motion of a device while simultaneously creating a map of the environment to create a 3D representation of the object.
Final design of the phone is not yet confirmed and Lenovo showcased on prototype images. This phone will come with 6.5 inch display and will be powered by a Qualcomm processor. Detailed specifications were not confirmed.
At this moment, we cannot confirm whether Google is only working with Lenovo or other OEMs are also part of this project with Google. Google is still working on this and it will take few more months to understand if this project is ready for wide roll out.
