While people think that India’s tablet market is going down, recent report by CyberMedia Research says just opposite. According to CMR, India’s tablet market saw growth of 31.8 year-over-year in the September quarter. In this period of time, total 1.36 million units were shipped.

Only 12 different vendors managed to sell significant amount (more than 2000 units) of tablets in this time period. Pantel Technologies managed to grab the top spot in selling most number of tablets in Indian market. This company earlier sold tablets with BSNL. Pantel Technologies recorded 16.4% market share. Samsung and Micromax are at second and third place with 14.9% and 14.0% market share respectively.

Tablet Market share

Android is ruling the tablet market with around 92.5% market share. 55% tablet shipped in this time period were of 1 GB RAM and around 73% tablets were of 7 inch display. Report also confirms that most of the people were buying entry level tablets. Around 75.8% tablet shipped were of price less than Rs. 10000.

Report suggests that brands should focus on low-cost tablets. Pantel and Datawind both sells their tablets in the price of less than Rs. 7000. And results are very good. This is the reason why iBall and Micromax both are in the lost. People in India are not ready to buy high-end tablets from Samsung, Microsoft or Apple. They usually prefer to go with a laptop if they have budget more than Rs 15000.
