Motorola Moto 360 2nd Generation: First Impressions
On December 1, Motorola launched its 2nd generation Moto 360 smartwatch in India starting for Rs. 19999. This time, 5 different variants will be available in 2 different sizes: 42 and 46-mm variants. Larger variant is ideal for men while small is targeting both men and women both. Customers can select one based on their interest. For women, attractive rose gold variant is also there in smaller size.
This watch is very important for Motorola because it is still struggling in getting a considerable spot in wearable market. While Apple watch is getting huge popularity, Android wear is still struggling. May be users are waiting wearable to be better before they consider it to buy.
These watches are also dust and water resistant with IP67 rating. Display is also protected with Gorilla Glass. So ideal for daily usage. You can wear it to match your fashion without worry.
Design and display
This time Motorola has focused on style as well. Similar to its predecessor, you will be able to select between leather or metal straps. This time crown has been moved up from 3 o’clock to 2 o’clock and lugs are now there to easily add or remove straps.
46mm variant comes with 1.56 inch display protected with Gorilla Glass. 42 variant comes with 1.37 inch display protected with Gorilla Glass. You can also control brightness level as per your need. Outdoor visibility is also good.
Moto 360 2nd Gen features a 1.2 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 512 MB RAM. It has 4GB eMMC storage. It comes with Wi-Fi b/g and Bluetooth 4.0 LE connectivity. If I talk about sensors, it comes with heart rate monitor sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient Light Sensor, Gyroscope and Vibration/Haptics engine. It comes with dual microphones.
Battery is the main thing we generally talk about in wearables. Less battery life was the main reason why people didn’t buy first generation Moto 360. This time, Motorola claims to offer better battery life in this smartwatch. 42 mm Men’s and 35mm women’s watch comes with 300mAh battery to offer 1.5 days mixed usage with ambient off and up to 1 day with ambient on. 46mm watch comes with 400 mAh battery which claims to offer 2 days mixed usage with ambient off and up to 1.5 days with ambient on.
The watches can be charged by using a wireless charging dock.
Motorola’s 2nd Gen wearable runs on latest version of Android Wear software platform and supports both Android and iOS devices. All you need to do is pair with your device by using Android Wear app. It is worth to mention that you will be able to use all features on iOS platform due to some restriction imposed by iOS. Still, it can do various tasks including notifications and fitness tracking.
From Android wear app, you can change the dialers in watch. You can also long press on watch’s screen to change it. You can also perform voice search by using ‘OK Google’ voice command.
Moto 360 is Live Dial is also an interesting feature which offers live updates right on the main screen, without the need of opening any app.
