We already have voice messages in Facebook messenger. This feature was added back in 2013. So, you can send voice messages to your friends. But soon you will also see Voice transcriptions for voice messages in messenger Facebook already started testing this feature.

When you will send a voice message in Messenger, you will also see Google Voice-style transcriptions to your voice clips just below the voice message. Both senders and receiver can see this text. But you will have a choice to turn this off. Transcription will be generated automatically as soon as you tap on the microphone icon and start recording the audio message. Voice recognition technology will listen to your voice and generate audio messages.

This feature is very helpful when you receive a voice message but you are not in the suitable place to listen that. You can prefer reading the message transcription.

This is just a small feature and Facebook want to know the reaction of people. David Marcus, who runs Messenger, posted a screenshot showing how this feature will actually look into messenger.

Recently, Facebook bought speech recognition start-up Wit.ai which is very helpful for this feature.
