Key features Added in new iOS 8

iOS 8 is already our and is available for all supported iOS devices. It was announced in Apple’s annual World Wide Developers’ Conference (WWDC) and was only available for developers. Now it is available for all iOS users. Apple claims that this new version of iOS is the biggest release since the launch of App store. It comes with hundreds of new features.

This new update is compatible with iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, iPod touch 5th generation, iPad 2, iPad Retina display, iPad Air, iPad Mini and iPad Retina display. Newly launched iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will come with iOS 8 onboard. In this post, we are listing key features added in this new version of iOS.

1. Photos and Camera app

iOS 8 comes with improve Photos and Camera apps. In photo apps, it is easier to find photos in your collection. You can search photos by date, location or album. Search comes with smart suggestions to suggest you what is important to you.

Camera app becomes smarter with quick photo editing tools. You can easily adjust the exposure, brightness, contrast and other things with built in tools. The iOS 8 has added many photo filters to give you Instagram like feeling in your camera app.

With new camera app, you can also create Time-lapse videos. If you do not know what is time lapse video, you can read our older article explaining time lapse videos.

2. Messages

Messaging now including voice and video messages. Just tap and hold mic to capture any sound and make it a part of your conversation. You can also send a video via messages. Messages also includes group messaging. Just give the group messaging a name and then start talking about anything. If you do not want to be the part of the conversation, you can also turn it off and then read all messages later. In short, we can say that Apple has added WhatsApp features to its messages to make it more interesting and capture users’ attention. Similar to the Whatsapp, you can also share your location and send files in conversation.

3. Interactive Notifications

The iOS 8 brings interactive notification center which lets you see notifications and quickly perform actions direct from notification center. You can reply to texts, emails and Facebook conversations. Look and feel of the new notification center is awesome.

Press home screen twice to see the multi-tasking interface and you will notice the faces of people at the top. Swiping right will open favorite contacts.

Apple has also revamped the mail box interface to make it better.

4. QuickType keyboard,

iOS 8 makes keyboard starter with quicktype feature. With smart prediction, you can write entire sentences with just few taps. You will probably see the suggestions which you will probably type next.

Now Apple also allows third-party keyboards. So for the first time, you will be able to install third-party keyboards.

5. Family Sharing

Family Sharing is another exciting feature of iOS 8. In this, you can share purchases from iTunes and iBooks with your family members without sharing your accounts. It also lets you approve kids’ spending right from a parent’s device. Easily share photos, family calendar and more.

Create family album and then your family members can contribute in the same album and it will be shared with all.

Family sharing also lets you share your location with your members. You can hide your location any time. You can also track your family member’s lost device.

6. HealthKit

HealthKit is a new framework which aggregates data from numerous fitness and health related apps. It lets you access your fitness data at once place. This data can be shared with physician app which lets doctors access your data remotely. But it seems that a bug delays the Healthkit for iOS8.

7. HomeKit

HomeKit is another cool feature of iOS8 which lets to connect other smart devices with your smartphone and control them from one places. For example, if you are going to sleep, you can tell siri that you were “going to bed” and it could dim lights and lock doors.

8. iCloud Drive

iCloud Drive is similar to Google Drive or One drive. You will be able to access your files via iPhone, iPad or from other apple products and Windows PC by using iCloud app. This cross platform approach helps users in accessing or edit files from any where.

9. Spotlight

spotli has also been revamped and now it can go beyond your smartphone. It displays brief summaries from Wikipedia, nearby locations, trending news and more conventional stories. It knows about popular websites, movies and gives results accordingly.

10. Continuity

Continuity

Apple has connected all Apple devices to work together. You can start writing an email on your phone and then pick up where you left off when you sit down at your Mac. Browse the web on Mac and if you are leaving the room, you can bring those web pages on your iPhone.
