Popular mobile messaging service WhatsApp is rolling out push-to-talk voice messaging feature to its App for all mobile platforms. This update is being rolled out gradually and is expected to arrive in 24 hours.

Whats App push-to-talk

This feature will turn your mobile into Walkie-talkie. Push the mic icon and then speak to record the message. If you do not want to send the recorded message, swipe to the left and message will be deleted.

WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum confirmed this in an interview with allthingsD. He also demonstrated how this feature lets users send voice messages in one step while Facebook app takes three steps.

There is no limit in the length of recording. App can also auto adjust the speaker volume when held next to ear and when held at arm’s length. If the message has been played, it adds a blue microphone illustration.

WhatsApp has also confirmed that it has surpassed 300 monthly active users with 20 million active users in India. WhatsApp users now send over 11 billion messages and receive 20 billion messages per day. Confused?? Counted separately because some messages are send to more than one people. Back in June WhatsApp confirmed 250 million users while in April, it was 200 million.

This voice messaging feature is already available in Chinese mobile messaging app WeChat that is growing fast in India. We can say that WhatsaApp has added the feature because it does not want to give other competitors a chance to beat it.
