Microsoft Forced to Rename SkyDrive Following Trademark Case

Microsoft’s popular cloud storage service SkyDrive is under a trademark case. Trademark for the name ‘SkyDrive’ is owned by British Sky Broadcasting Group (BSkyB). So, Microsoft will have to change the name of it’s could storage service worldwide.

On Wednesday, in settlement, Microsoft agreed to change the name and will not appeal against the decision. BSkyB will also allow Microsoft to use the brand name for a reasonable period of time for transition to a new brand name.

“We’re glad to have resolution of this naming dispute, and will continue to deliver the great service our hundreds of millions of customers expect, providing the best way to always have your files with you,” Microsoft reportedly said in a statement issued to The Verge.

This agreement also involves some financial terms which was not disclosed by any of the company.

This is the second times when Microsoft is going to change the name of its product. Earlier, it stopped using the name Metro for its Windows 8 interface.
