E-commerce giant Amazon has finally in Indian market with its country specific domain, Amazon.in. Amazon.in offers books, movies and TV shows for sale in Indian currency. Company is also planning to expand the service soon. In the menu, it also has a coming soon section for mobile and camera devices.
“Our vision, at Amazon, is to be Earth’s most customer centric company; to build a place where people can come to find and discover virtually anything they want to buy online. With Amazon.in, we endeavor to build that same destination in India by giving customers more of what they want – vast selection, low prices, fast and reliable delivery, and a trusted and convenient experience,” said Greg Greeley, Vice President of International Expansion at Amazon.com. “We’re excited to get started in India and we will relentlessly focus on raising the bar for customer experience in India.”
India is the tenth market where Amazon is launching its dedicated marketplace.
Amazon cannot sell its own products in India due to India’s FDI regulations.. Indian sellers can sell their items on Amazon marketplace by listing their items on the website. Amazon has already signed up 100 vendors of the country and has set up a 1.5 lakh sqft fulfillment center in Mumbai to service all online orders.
“This marketplace will provide Indian customers with a shopping destination to purchase products from third-party sellers. India represents Amazon’s tenth marketplace launch,” the company said in a statement.
Company is also offering free home delivery and cash in delivery payment option.
Currently Indian e-commerce has been dominated by Flipkart. Another global e-commerce giant Ebay is also operating in Indian market. Now after the launch of Amazon, it will be interesting to see how companies fight to get the top position.
