Twitter Hacked and 250,000 User Accounts Compromised, Change Password Now

Do you use Twitter? if yes, go and change your Twitter password Now. According to the Twitter, It was hacked and around 250k accounts were compromised. Company is also sending emails to all affected account requesting change the password.

“This week, we detected unusual access patterns that led to us identifying unauthorized access attempts to Twitter user data. We discovered one live attack and were able to shut it down in process moments later. However, our investigation has thus far indicated that the attackers may have had access to limited user information – usernames, email addresses, session tokens and encrypted/salted versions of passwords – for approximately 250,000 users,” Twitter announced in a blog post.

Company also suggested users to disable Java in their system. It says, “We also echo the advisory from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and security experts to encourage users to disable Java in their browsers.”

I will request users to change their Twitter account password whether they received notification emails to change password or not.

Recently The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal also reported hacking attempt to their computer systems by China based hackers.

Nothing is clear about this attack and company did not mention anything in detail how the hacking was performed. Some security researcher claims that Twitter hack probably happened after an employee’s home or work computer was compromised through a vulnerability in Java.
