Sony Acquires Gaikai for $380 Million, Cloud Gaming Coming Soon

On 31 June, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) acquired Gaikai Inc., popular cloud based gaming company. For this deal, Sony has paid $380 million.

Now Sony will establish a new cloud gaming service which will provide better gaming experience.

“By combining Gaikai’s resources, including its technological strength and engineering talent, with SCE’s extensive game platform knowledge and experience, SCE will provide users with unparalleled cloud entertainment experiences,” said Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. “SCE will deliver a world-class cloud-streaming service that allows users to enjoy a broad array of content – ranging from immersive core games with rich graphics to casual content – anytime, anywhere on a variety of Internet-connected devices.”

Gaikai was established in 2008 and 2008 and headquartered in Aliso Viejo, California. Company has developers interactive and high quality cloud streaming platform which enables game streaming on various devices on the internet.

Sony also confirmed that Sony won’t turn Gaikai’s cloud service into an exclusive one for PlayStation devices like the PS3 or PS Vita. So we can expect a new gaming service from Sony parallel with existing gaming services PS2, the PS3 and the handheld PSP
